Developed

Fall Exhibition at L’Atelier Gallery

On View October 4, 2024

Developed is a group exhibition celebrating the rich artistry of Black and Brown film photographers from across the globe. With featured artists based in Portland, Chicago, and Accra, Ghana, this exhibition creates a powerful dialogue between distinct places, cultures, and perspectives—all unified by a shared love for the timeless craft of film photography.

The title is a thoughtful play on both the technical process of film development and the artists' own journeys as they navigate and evolve within their creative practices. At its core, the exhibition seeks to challenge traditional notions of framing photography, inviting visitors to experience a curated collection where each artist tells a unique visual story that transcends the boundaries of the frame.

Each photographer—Charity May, Daizsa Jackson, Nana Kwame Bampo, Luibelt Almeida, Randiss Wonder, Chantal Gutierrez, and Karrick Robinson—presents a selection of 5-7 images, carefully compiled to evoke diverse emotional responses and spark conversation.

Curated by Alisa Wilbon, who also contributes her own work, invites audiences to immerse themselves in the tactile beauty and nuanced storytelling of film photography, a medium that has regained its cultural relevance in a digital world. Developed is a celebration of cultural identity, artistic evolution, and the magic of film.

The exhibition welcomes you to explore photography in its rawest, most organic form, while also challenging how we view, frame, and connect with visual art.
