Grio Barbershop is open to barbers and stylists from Wednesday to Sunday, 12PM - 5PM. Priority will go to BIPOC barbers, locticians & hair braiders. There will be one reservation available per day, and it is up to the barber to fill their time with however many clients they can fit into a five-hour time period. If times need to be adjusted please email us at info@atelieryaffe.com and we will try to accommodate. We look forward to hosting you in Grio Barbershop!

FAQ

Grio Barbershop will be a space that offers a change of scenery for both hair professionals and their clients. We have created a comfortable and engaging space for everyone to feel right at home.

Does it cost anything to book a reservation as a barber?

No, it does not cost anything to book a day at Grio Barbershop! This is part of our summer exhibition and we want to include our community as much as we can. All we ask is that you and your clients consider purchasing food and beverage from our cafe while you are here, as well as help spread the word about our space. If you would like our in-house marketing team to create content during your booking for cross-promotion, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.

Can I book a hair appointment through Grio barbershop?

We only take freelance licensed barbers and hair stylists like locticians, hair braiders and curl specialists. If you’d like to get your hair cut at Grio Barbershop, we will work with our current lineup and offer haircut appointments when they become available.

Do I have to identify as BIPOC to be be able to reserve a day as a barber or hair stylist?

While we do welcome everyone, we offer priority bookings to BIPOC hair professionals as this is an exhibition to highlight Black Hair culture. We wanted to create a safe space for BIPOC communities to gather, get their hair done, and connect through storytelling and shared experiences. Grio Barbershop is meant to highlight ethnic hairstyles, so we welcome locticians, hair braiders, and curl specialists.

Do I need to bring anything?

Yes, all hair professionals should expect to bring their own setup including tools, aprons, etc. Grio Barbershop provides a unique and nostalgic experience for both stylists and clients, all we ask is that stylists booking their day leave the space how they found it - this includes cleaning up and maintaining the space. Thank you!

We imagine Grio Barbershop to be a space where barbers, locticians and hair braiders can work their magic! We know how difficult it is to find a safe space to get your hair done, so we wanted to open up our shop and especially cater to textured hair care. We hope to see you at Grio Barbershop!
